O’ Canada…and beyond (in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday)
While creating this Canadian series, I have had the privilege of reflecting on the incredible vastness of this country, the diversity in culture and spectacular landscape, the strength and resilience of communities past and present, from coast to coast to coast that bind our peaceful nation.
I’ve thought about the heart-wrenching reconciliatory work that still needs to be done, our responsibility as guests in nature to preserve, conserve and protect the environment, as members of families, and of open, welcoming communities, to help each other whenever and however possible to our best ability. We have been fortunate to ‘land’ in a nation filled with outrageous resources, massive realms of opportunity, and promising prospects for our youth and beyond. We are truly blessed to call Canada our home.
What of your thoughts, hopes, and dreams, of and for our communities and our nation? To send me your thoughts, or feedback, please email Marni at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Red shoe press – Marni Harris, Vancouver
After many moves about the globe and random art classes in various countries, Marni attended the Diploma Programme at the Ottawa School of Art. Since moving to Vancouver in 2015, she has studied sculpture at the Vancouver Sculpture Studio and learned to weld and forge in metal sculpture classes at Emily Carr School of Art and Design. She also happily continues her printmaking practice at Malaspina Printmakers Society on Granville Island and quilting in her home-based studio.
Marni has exhibited artwork in group and solo shows in Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia. When not in the studio, Harris continues to teach yoga, coach/train people of all ages and abilities, volunteer at BC Children’s hospital, train in a variety of sports and travel with their family. These rhythms of motion, connections to various communities and playtime in nature inform her art practice.
Harris strives to live boldly with playfulness and deeply with gratitude for every bit of inspiration, support and encouragement from family and treasured friends.
